I-355 Tollway Wetland Mitigation

CTE completed wetland planning for a 17.5-mile tollway through central DuPage County, Illinois. CTE identified wetlands, determined boundaries, and classified each type of wetland habitat as required by the US Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) 404 permit application. The issuance of the USACE 404 permit required that approximately 80 acres of wetland be created and 40 acres of existing wetland be enhanced. CTE developed the wetland design criteria, plans and contract specifications to vegetate the wetlands with species native to DuPage County. The plans and specifications were reviewed and accepted by the USACE, US Environmental Protection Agency, US Fish and Wildlife Service, and the Illinois Department of Conservation. Construction of the high quality wetland was supervised by CTE's engineers and scientists. The project received an American Council of Engineering Companies - Illinois Engineering Excellence Award.
