Chicago River Turning Basin Cut-Off Wall
CTE completed a large leakage control project to enable Illinois to comply with a US Supreme Court decree that limits the amount of Lake Michigan water the state can divert. The project included a new watertight cutoff wall, pump station and four 10-foot x 10-foot sluice gates to control the most serious area of uncontrolled leakage at the mouth of the Chicago River in the Chicago River Turning Basin. This project also facilitated construction of a new 450-slip boat marina located on the south side of the wall. In addition to general management, CTE provided the environmental assessment, coastal, hydraulic and geotechnical analyses, calculations, contract documents, and resident and construction engineering services. CTE also performed all structural, hydraulic, mechanical, electrical, architectural, and civil design.
