Nashville Overflow Abatement Program
In this fifteen year program, incremental successes have resulted in a major milestone -- both federal and state declarations that 33 miles of the Cumberland River are now clean, thereby removing those river reaches from the polluted waters list. Since 1990, CTE has been the Program Manager for Metro Nashville's efforts to control overflow, improve plant operations and address regulatory requirements. During that time, over $840 million was spent to reduce CSO volume, increase Central Plant capacity from 200 to 330-mgd, eliminate 3 billion gallons per year of extraneous flow from the sewer system, and reduce the number of overflow points from 157 to 35, with added reductions in sight.
